Sometimes the Academy Ticks me off - Academy Awards Nominations
February 2nd 2010 19:38
So the nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced today. I'm both pleased and annoyed.
Best Picture Nominees: Avatar, The Blind Side, Inglourious Basterds, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Precious, A Serious Man, Up, and Up in the Air.
Where's Star Trek?? They extended the number of best picture nominees in order to draw in more viewers. I guess that's why we see films like Up and The Blind Side nominated.
But according to Rotten Tomatoes, it's a better film then Avatar. Oh! *ducks flying object* Ok, most of you say Avatar IS a better movie but in my lowly opinion Star Trek was the movie of 2009.
Since The Academy nominated Avatar and District 9 - both sci-fi films - I feel they should have extended the nomination to Star Trek. Ok, fine if not for best film how about a nod to one of the actors (Zachary Quinto) or to the cinamatography. Nope.
I guess you can't get everything. Aside from the whole Star Trek thing I'm excited about this year. I can't choose between Avatar, UP, and Inglourious Basterds for best picture. But I'm definitely hoping for Jeff Bridges for best actor, Sandra Bullock for best actress and Christoph Waltz for best supporting actor.
I hope Star Trek wins for something..special effects maybe...no? Right, Avatar is nominated for that too. Fine!
