An Education Review
April 19th 2010 00:16
I've been looking forward to watching this movie for a long time. I've been a fan of Carey Mulligan ever since she blew me away in arguably the best Doctor Who episode 'Blink' (check it out guys! It's a great episode!)
So I already knew she'd be fantastic. After watching this movie I'm an even bigger fan! She really was amazing.
Set in the early 1960's, Jenny is a young girl with hopes of getting into Oxford. Her plans and desires are changed when she meets a charming older man who takes her to clubs, concerts and Paris.
This is a wonderfully realistic look on education, financial reality and romance. At one point in the film Jenny asks her father why even send her to school when he seems more then satisfied that she will marry the older rich man. Why educate her when he's happy with her being a house wife. "You could've just sent me to night clubs!" she points out.
I adore this frank look on a woman's future options. I felt for Jenny and the choices she had to make.
I won't tell you how it ends, just know that it's worth the watch.
