Avatar - 2D or 3D?

So, over the weekend I watched Avatar twice. I'm sure that makes me some kind of geek - and if that's the case, I won't tell you how many times I watched The Fellowship of the Ring the first day it came out.
Yes, I liked this movie that much - but actually I watched it for the second time to experience it in 3D. This would be my first 3D movie- I was really excited!
I expected the beautiful scene to be even more breath-taking. But to be honest, it's not much different in 3D. The images that would "come at you" were subtle. It was cool, but I don't think it was worth the extra money.
Not that I didn't mind seeing it again, I just wasn't floored by the 3D effects. The movie can stand on its own feet in 2D. It's still as beautiful and fascinating in 2D as it is in 3D.
Earlier today I was talking with a friend about the film in 3D. I was surprised to hear him say that it was amazing in 3D. But he only saw it in 3D. Maybe it makes a difference which version you see first.
So if you don't want to pay the extra cash - just see it in 2D. But if you haven't seen it already and you're ok with spending a little extra - see the 3D version first.
I look forward to seeing other films in 3D to make comparisons.
