One after 9/9/09: My Thoughts on The Beatles: Rock Band

September 10th 2009 05:46
So I'm taking a break from the movies to sit in front of my trusty X-Box 360.

I walked into Wal-Mart today to just LOOK at the latest game in the Rock Band series. Seriously. Just to look. I have no idea how I walked out with the game in my hands. I was going to wait to purchase this one (low on funds, you see) but I've anticipated this game since I heard about it a year ago.

I'm a huge Rock Band fan - the game that helped me keep my sanity during my Junior year of college. It was challenging, fun with a group of friends, and it fed the need for music in my life - and it was mindless.

I'm an eternally huge Beatles fan. I grew up watching Yellow Submarine, I have all their music memorized, I know at least 5 facts about each song, I nearly cried when I saw Paul McCartney in concert seven years ago....I'm a big fan.

Is it strange that I find CGI Harrison and McCartney attractive...?

So you see how I couldn't resist buying this game. And my rating of the game is this: one after 909...ok that would be 910- but what I mean is that this game is a 10.

It is so beautifully and cleverly designed. The intro, the little details here and there, even the computer generated Beatles themselves - flawless. It's like a fun, interactive documentary. It invites you to join in on one of the best decades in rock and roll music history.

I must admit that Rock Band 2 was more challenging, but I had so much more FUN playing this game. I never smiled so much while playing a video game.

One complaint that I have (and other critics online also have) is the limited song catalogue. 45 songs. Just 45 out of a song catalogue of at least 250. I instantly noticed the lack of 'Hey Jude'. Still, I'm just assuming Harmonix will be milking this opportunity for all it's worth. You'll probably have to download more songs as they become available. Makes sense from a business point of view. Annoying as hell though.

If Harmonix wants my money I'll give it to them for actual footage of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr playing this game. That would be classic.

If you are a music game fan - you'll love this game. If you are a Beatles fan - you'll adore this game.

Yea, I heard about All You Need is Love. I guess I'll have to restart my X-Box live account.

I figured they release more songs later. It only logical.
