So My Thoughts on A Christmas Carol

November 14th 2009 02:45
It's hard to say if I liked the new Christmas Carol movie or not. I love the foundational story. I would say the timeless lines before each character spoke them on the screen

But is this one any good?

Well, it was oddly scary. Even the Ghost of Christmas Present was slightly chilling. Even when I knew something was coming, I'd jump.

The visuals were quite amazing. Instead of a spirit merely leading Scrooge into a scene, Robert Zemeckis flies the audience into through Scrooges past, present and future. It was unique but I found that it took away from the characters. I think the actors (Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth) did well but the overblown visuals distracted from the performances.

So my final thought is that Zemeckis tried to make this one stand out but in the end I think it's forgettable.
