Chris Evans (Captain America) Evalution: Push and Sunshine
April 1st 2010 03:25
I’m a huge comic book fan. To be more precise I’m a Marvel girl who happens to idolize one certain red, white, and blue superhero. In a simple phrase: I love Captain America.
I was actually planning on blogging about the the casting updates but life took my attention away from the proceedings and before I knew it- there was Chris Evans.
The day after the news broke I started gathering his movies so I could evaluate him. I needed to see if he could really fill those red boots!
Push
This was one of those movies that I planned on seeing in the theaters if it came to our theater. But our three screens missed out due to the limited release. Honestly, I wasn’t surprised.
Anyway, this is interesting film. Kind of reminded me of Heroes with the whole super-powered-people-who-aren ’t-necessarily-superheroes thing.
The film started out strong. I was really into it! And then…I….just started…not paying…um where was I? Right, review. Yea, I lost focus. The plot suddenly was all over the place and nothing was making much sense. It was just a flashy sci-fi with some potential…potential that never really paid off in the end.
But we are talking about Chris Evans. He was great in this film. I liked him as the central hero- he was flawed but a good leader and protective of those he cared about.I didn’t buy the love story but I seldom do. So despite the script and plot he really stood out.
Sunshine
Oh. Man. EPIC. WIN. I loved this movie. This is one of those smart sci-fi movies. The atmosphere of the film reminded me of Moon.
And not only did this film solidify my love for Chris Evans but it guaranteed my love for Danny Boyle. I guess I never connected the dots before. The director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later is the same as Slumdog Millionaire? I really shouldn’t be surprised. His style is amazing! I think I’m a big, big fan now. He’s artistic without compromising the story. Absolutely amazing.
But I’m supposed to be talking about Chris. He was brilliant in this movie! His character in this film is closer to how I see him playing Steve Rogers. Well, without being an aggressive douche bag. His character knew what needed to be done and wouldn’t let anything compromise the mission- which happens to be saving earth. As a result he was noble and brave but kind of a jerk to everyone.
I should really mention Cillian Murphy as well. One of my favorite actors! I almost watched this movie a couple of years ago because he was in it. He's stellar in this film as well! The whole cast was great.
So far I’ve been really impressed with Chris’s versatility, especially considering some of his earlier roles (Fantastic Four). In these two films he proved to me that he can play it more serious.
I’m still watching Chris’s films. Unfortunately Fantastic Four is coming up. I’ve seen the first film but not the second one. I’ll be going over that one and The Nanny Diaries next. But after Sunshine- I should let my doubts rest.
