More Chronicles of Narnia - The One with the Ship

Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader takes place after the previous film. Lucy and Edmund are whisked away to Narnia with their annoying cousin Eustace through a magical picture on the wall. They find themselves on the Dawn Treader- a ship led by Caspian. They’re on a mission to find the seven missing lords of Narnia.
C. S. Lewis is my favorite author. He was brilliant, funny, imaginative and British. The Chronicles of Narnia were among my favorite books growing up.
I was worried about the film version of Voyage of the Dawn Treader because the book is broken up into segmented adventures. It was a fun sea voyage with one chapter having a problem that is ultimately solved by the start of the next chapter. There is one main reason that Prince Caspian is on his voyage but it feels like an excuse to have sea adventures.
While this works well in print I wasn’t too sure how that would reflect in a film version. The writers tried to solve this issue- but I wasn’t impressed by their solution. I’m not one to who think that any change in a film version is the worst sin imaginable. I understand that film and print are two very different mediums. But the way the writers tried to make this work seemed dispassionate and lazy.
There was something missing in this movie. Even with the added special effects and 3D objects fly at me- it just didn’t seem like Narnia. I didn’t hate it. The actors, sets and visuals were pretty good. But I was left underwhelmed.
I was hoping that this series would continue till they got to my favorite book in the series (The Horse and His Boy) but with the way things are looking that may not be a reality.
