The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

August 10th 2010 19:09
"The Girl" is gold. I love foreign films because they remind me that Hollywood isn't the ultimate authority on filmmaking.

Ok, first and foremost -The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is intense. It's a strong rated R. There were certain scenes that I kept saying to myself 'scene cut, scene cut', but there was no scene cut. Which, for some, may be a bit much.

Violence aside, this was a brilliantly acted and directed movie. The pacing is somewhat slow but it picks up where it counts. Unlike some other mystery movies this one allows the viewer to really get to know the lead characters- The girl, Lisbeth, goes through some trying times and we get a sneak peak at her dark past revealing a deeply dimensional heroine.

What I felt with this film is the strong feminine message. While I can hardly say that my struggles as a woman are anywhere near Lisbeth, I still feel like she was a champion for all women. When she executed her justice - however severe - I couldn't help but be satisfied.

So, this movie isn't for everyone. The length and violence may be a bit much for some people. I won't be watching it again anytime soon, but I will definitely be grabbing the next film when its available.
