So I just got out of Hot Tub Time Machine and I'm in a bad mood. Aren't comedies suppose to cheer you up?
I thought I was going to like this movie. I like John Cusack, comedies, time travel films, and movies about the 80s. I didn't like this movie. It just wasn't funny. Well, there were a few moments. But in all the film seemed imbalanced somehow.
Obviously, with a title like Hot Tub Time Machine, the movie wasn't taking itself seriously. And still- it just didn't do much for me.
1.) Too much "gross out" humor. It's not like I'm a prude, but I thought resorting to the "gross" was just lazy.
2.) Boring. I don't know how else to put it. I was bored. I didn't really care what happened to the characters. Just blah.
3.) Missed Opportunities. I was really disappointed at the lack of humorous potential the script could of had. I mean, an 80's time travel comedy! It was a hilarious decade- from styles to entertainment! The 80's also produced some memorable time travel films, a couple of which got a mention here and there, but I feel like the writers missed out on something. I wanted more flock-of-seaguls humor! Make a David Bowie joke! Something!
I know that rottentomatoes.com gave this one a fresh rating, so maybe I'm missing out on something. I just don't think I have the patience for it to try again.
