Inglourious Basterds - I’m both afraid and excited.

All hail the glorious Quentin Tarantino! Seems like he pulled another masterpiece from that dark, brilliant, twisted mind of his.
Now I haven’t seen it yet (Thursday night or Friday Morning) but the trailer was amazing and Rottentomatoes.com tweeted this morning that Inglourious Basterds is indeed fresh (83%).
With that said, I have to admit that I was not looking forward to seeing this movie. I highly respect Quentin Tarantino – but he scares the hell out of me. As much as I love movies, I have a secret weakness. I can’t take gore. Blood, violence, and sex- I can take all of that easily. But you start pulling out internal organs or showing an overabundance of torture and I’ve passed out in my popcorn.
I’ve seen a Tarantino movie or two (peeking through my fingers) and I know what he can put in a film to make me squirm. So a movie about American’s going into Nazi-occupied France to give the Germans a taste of their own medicine seems like a good excuse for him to throw in some artful gore.
But the movie still looks so damn good! The marketers behind it are very clever (You’ve seen it! The poster that says proudly at the top: “Brad Pitt is a Basterd”. Brilliant.) This seems like the movie that I may have to view through my fingers just because I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t. I’ll get back to you after seeing the Basterds in action.
