Julie and Julia - A Great Movie for Bloggers
September 15th 2009 04:56
Our little theatre got Julie and Julia the other day. Fantastic film! I was honestly surprised how much I liked this movie. Here are the themes that struck me as being extraordinary.
- Strong women doing something other than falling in love. I, for one, am a woman and if there is something I get tired of watching in a movie it is a woman who is only there to be a love interest. I was refreshed to see the two female leads striving to better themselves - making goals and reaching them.
- A film that has a positive message on marriage. I am not married, but that did not hinder my appreciation of the marriages portrayed in this film. Julie (played by Amy Adams) is a modern woman who lives in a small apartment with her husband. They have their troubles but this film showed the depth of their love and devotion to each other. Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) is also in a realistic but rewarding marriage.
- The impact of the written word. This film showed the trials that Julia Child went through to get her famous book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, published. Fast forward a few decades to Julie who is also a writer. She wrote a book that no publisher would touch, but she discovers the new ways an individual can write. She starts a blog. This really caught my attention since I have my own little blog.
There were other themes that were present were friendship, historical parallels, and finishing things started.
A great motivational movie for small time bloggers like myself!
