The King's Speech

I'm a Colin Firth fan. What's not to love? He's talented, still easy on the eyes and he's British. I thought his performance in A Single Man was flawless. He broken my heart to pieces in that role. I really didn't think he could get any better.
Well, he did. In The King's Speech.
Colin Firth was absolute perfection in this role. He portrayed King George as both strong but vulnerable, scary and scared, a great leader and a good man. He was a delight to watch!
The King's Speech is based on King George VI's struggle to overcome his stutter with the help of an unorthodox speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush.
I'm always amazed at inspirational true stories. True stories about real people who overcame personal and physical struggles- they're just so much more real, raw and potent. This film gives the audience that real inspiration without too much melodrama and with plenty of wit and humor.
I'm also a sucker for stories set during World War II.
I was fortunate to see this film with a full crowd. I find a film more enjoyable when you have an attentive audience. There was a lot of laugher in our crowd. I was a little surprised at how funny this film was! Although, in retrospect it was Geoffrey Rush and he just oozes wit and charm.
It'd be a crime not to mention Helena Bonham Carter! I'm a fan of her outlandish roles, but it was nice to see her in a more reserved role. Reserved but strong and moving.
It would also be wrong not to praise the director (Tom Hooper), the art direction, the screenplay and the set designers.
The King's Speech is one of those movies I want on repeat when I'm painting or writing a paper. Absolute brilliance!
