The Lovely Bones - lovelier then you may think

So generally this film is hated by the critics, but it really isn't quite as bad as they are saying.
I saw the film the weekend it opened. I'm a huge Peter Jackson fan and the trailer looked fantastic. I regret not finishing the book since that is my general rule: read book, evaluate film interpretation.
I can see why the general crowd of critics are frowning on this film - length, odd special effects, flip-flopping emotional scenes, etc. But I was personally engrossed and emotionally invested in the characters. There were moments when I may have teared up, and the subtle symbolism playing throughout was enchanting.
So honestly I think this film is an individual hit-or-miss kind of movie- meaning depending on the individual you may like it or hate it.
I liked it.
