I Have Mixed Feelings about Percy Jackson

I said I'd get this review up a lot earlier but in my defense- I was still digesting the film. Because there were things about it I really liked: mythology, humor.
But there were too many logic jumps and convenient plot devices that just had me shouting at the screen. The direction was also strange in areas, which doesn't surprise me since it was directed by Chris Columbus.
So anyway two reasons to skip and one to motivate you to rent this in the future:
1. Flat characters. I feel like the characters should have been fleshed out more other then telling us who their divine parents are. Percy was probably the only one who had some more character development but even then- not so much.
2. Funky logic jumps. I just couldn't get past some of the WTF moments in the film. I just rolled my eyes way too many times. The door to Hades behind the Hollywood sign? Funny but...wait what?
BUT
3. The movie was fun! The plot moved along fast and the mythological elements were interesting and unique. I don't think this is quite the Harry Potter knock off that people claim it to be. There were enough differences between the two to make it stand on its own two feet.
I haven't read the book. I hate evaluating a film without having a good amount of the book read. I'll probably pick the book up at some point over the summer.
