I Love You, "I Love You, Phillip Morris"

I guess my cheesy titles should come with a warning. Sorry about that.
I watched this movie about a month ago. I was going to watch Sex and the City 2 but there were complications so I was stuck at home. I hadn’t watched a movie with one of my favorite Scottish actors (Ewan McGregor) in a long time so I got this one.
I haven’t laughed that much at a Jim Carrey movie since..I dunno Ace Ventura? Mask? Honestly, I’m not a big fan of comedian!Carrey. I like his more serious stuff better. This movie was a good role for him because he got to be genuinely funny and still have a smattering of serious scenes.
The movie is based on real events and a real man. I almost couldn’t believe it! The character that Carrey plays is so outrageous, he just couldn’t be real! He plays Steven Russell and all-American man who sudden realizes he’s gay. He starts to live the homosexual lifestyle but comes to find out that, “being gay isn’t cheap!” So he starts a number of scams which lands him in jail. It’s here he meets one of the sexists Scots around and falls in love with him (can you blame him?). McGregor plays the title character, Phillip Morris, who was just as charming and funny as Carrey.
Ok before I go any further this movie is rated R. It’s very R. It’s funny, but there’s a lot of penis-humor (I think I just coined a new phrase!). So it’s not for that faint of heart.
Penis-humor aside, this was a truly fascinating film. Steven Russell is a remarkably intelligent man who pulled off many creative schemes. It’s a funny almost-heart-felt movie with some really strong scenes. I pulled one of my favorites scenes. So subtly funny!
