Ponyo - Enchanting

Hayao Miyazaki is one of those directors that I need to watch more of. I've only seen one other film of his. After watching Ponyo I realized that I must be missing out on something.
Ponyo is based on Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid- loosely based and hardly like the Disney version. Miyazaki's refreshing view of the famous fairy tale somehow makes the viewer forget Ariel and Anderson.
The underwater scenes were among the more strange and visually stunning scenes. The characters were lovable and funny. The pacing was a little slow but nothing to really complain about.
Miyazaki's version of the fairy tale is both artistically beautiful and playfully childlike. I loved this movie for so many reasons. The primary reason: a new director to explore! I haven't seen Spirited Away yet. I need to change that!
