Quick Summer Movie Review
August 13th 2009 09:18
I had high hopes for this summer movie season. It would be my first summer as the head projectionist at my local theatre. Being the head projectionist has its perks. I get to see movies before they are released and I get paid to watch movies.
Sounds great, right? Well, it's great when the movies coming through are thrilling like Star Trek and Up. It's not so great when the movies are Transformers 2 and G-Force.
I believe this summer may be a couple of good movies behind last year. I was amazed at Star Trek (going back multiple times) and I cried at Up. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was subtle yet strong (perhaps lacking in book to movie translation but that's another blog post right there).
I think disappointing movies outnumber the good ones unfortunately. Terminator Salvation had a trailer that gave me goose bumps but apparently they put all the good stuff in the trailer. Transformers 2 also had a good trailer - and that was it. The film was one explosion after another with too many scenes that were constructed with the sole purpose of exploiting Megan Fox as a sex symbol. Year One and Ice Age 3 were not funny at all, but really I wasn't expecting much from those two.
This weekend I'm going to see G. I. Joe since the other projectionist built it and I still haven't had the opportunity to view it. I'm not holding out much hope for this one since my fellow projectionist could only go on and on about how hot one of the lead actresses were.
