Rifftrax Live! Jack the Giant Killer

August 18th 2011 17:47
This isn't so much a review as it is an appreciation post. I went to my first Rifftrax Live! event last night. I haven't laughed that much in a long time.

I'm a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the downloadable rifftrax to new movies. I was really looking forward to a live 'performance' from Mike Nelson and the gang.

We watched "Jack the Giant Killer" and it was pretty bad. Just the right amount of bad though. Not so bad that the jokes aren't necessary but bad enough where you wonder how it got past pre-production.

The terrible glowy witches were my favorite, but I can't forget to mention the imbalanced tittering of the dragon men.

One thing I love about the Rifftrax gang is their ability to keep their jokes current. Sure there's a nerd star wars joke but there was also a 127 Hours and Game of Thrones joke thrown in.

I recommend the MST3K comedy in any format: TV show, downloadable mp3 and live performances.

Yes, definitely full of current jokes - the movie ended with a double rainbow all the way!
