Toy Story 3 – We have a winner!

June 29th 2010 04:54
Yes! Finally, a really good movie to be excited about! After the Iron Man 2 adrenaline rush faded, I thought the summer movie season was over.

I can’t really pin it down to just one or two things that made this a great movie, but I’ll try.

It captured the spirit of the first movie. The vocal performances were spot on. It was funny and heart wrenching at the same time. The plot was solid. There were some surprising twists.

If I had to find fault in this film it would be the ‘scary’ imagery here and there. The movie is rated G so some of the villains could possibly induce nightmares in the younger crowd. Heck, the cymbal-banging monkey is going to give ME nightmares. But really, this isn’t a fault, rather just a shout-out to the amazing animators and artists (Hire me, plz!?).

What I admire about Pixar is their ability seamlessly weaves deep issues into a kid’s tale. The film deals with issues of mortality, loss and aging. Can Pixar do wrong? After Finding Nemo, Wall-E , Up and now the Toy Story Trilogy- I don’t believe so.

It made me want to dig out my old slinky dog and put him on the shelf.
