Tron review (the original one)
July 14th 2010 03:27
Tron's like a sucker punch from 1982! It's all like, "Hey, I look silly but I'm from two years outta the 70s! Yea, that's right, I started the whole computer generated awesome ya'll Millennials take for granted now!"
Tron is one of those movies that, as a sci-fi geek, I should have grown up on. But if my dad didn't like it, then it didn't exist on our collection of VHS tapes. So I never saw this one. When I watched the teaser trailer to Tron Legacy, I knew I had to take action. So I got a copy from the library and I cuddled up with my cup of coffee (yes, coffee..no actual cuddling with a human.) And I loved it! Granted, I may've fallen asleep for a few seconds but I pretty sure I didn't miss anything. The plot is slightly convoluted but if you just stick with it (or in my case, stay awake), it'll all turn out in the end.
I loved hearing the outdated computer talk too! It was just a lot of fun. Jeff Bridges is easily becoming one of my favorite actors.
Directly after watching the old one, I watched the latest trailer to Tron Legacy and IT BLEW MY MIND! Midnight showing here I come!

Film & TV on DVD
Tron is such a fun film that lost so much with its pan n scan VHS transfer. Viewing it on crisp DVD with the proper aspect ratio saw me enjoying the film more than I did in cinemas...maybe the added nostalgia had something to do with it too.
The technology was truly revolutionary and now stands as a postcard to the times it evolved.
