It takes two good movies to flush out a bad one

So I had to watch Year One. It wasn't the worst movie I had to watch at our local theatre, but it's on the list of worst movies. It's movies like Year One that make the whole 'getting paid to watch a movie' worth it.
Anyway, I don't know if anyone else gets this but when I watch a bad movie- I just feel bad. Just disgusted and a little cranky. But after I watch a good movie, I'm thinking about the acting, cinematography and symbolism.
So this week, me and my roommate decided to watch some older films that I had heard a lot of good things about. Those movies that I keep meaning to watch but never get around to it.
So on Sunday we watched The Prestige (2006). The Prestige is one of those movies that successfully had me away from my laptop for the entire film. I was on the edge of my seat analyzing each scene to try and figure it out before the end. The actors were fantastic. I've always been a fan of Hugh Jackman and he really is in his element in this type of film. He's not just a hunky guy with claws, he can really act! His vengeful character just got creepier and creepier as the movie progressed. Christian Bale's character was also full of mystery (not so much so that I didn't figure out what his secret was before the big reveal). The appearance of Andy Serkis and David Bowie were added bonuses.
This movie solidified my faith in Christopher Nolan. He's an amazing storyteller. Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and now with his new movie - Inception. The trailer looks promising, I have little doubt that he will deliver again.
The other movie we watched this week was Walk the Line (2005). I'm a big fan of movies that take place during the golden age of Rock and Roll. So naturally I was really into this movie. What surprised me about this film was the humanity. Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix did such fantastic jobs turning these legendary country/rock performers into real, tangible people. The film was a little long, but it had my attention the entire time so I can't really fault it for that.
It took two good movies to flush that awful one out of my mind. It's movies like The Prestige and Walk the Line that make me believe in Hollywood again.
