Where the Wild Things Are - For the Kid in All of Us
October 17th 2009 07:46
I was looking forward to this day - October 16 - the day we finally got the highly anticipated film, Where The Wild Thing Are.
Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to watch this film in its entirety. I was in and out of the theatre through the whole movie. I think I missed a total of 20 minutes worth of film.
What I did see really moved me. I can't say that I was in love with this movie, but it sure brought to the surface some interesting emotions. As I watched the world through Max's (played by Max Records - he's a real gem) eyes I began to feel like a kid again. I wanted to run wild outside and play make believe again. I began to wonder how I became this strange adult who thought little of her imagination anymore.
It was a touch of brilliance the way director Spike Jonze captured the fun and tragedy of being a child.
The critics are saying that this isn't a kids movie - and perhaps they are right. But it's definitely for the kid in all of us.
PS: Thanks for all the replies to my Birthday post - we debated a movie for a while before just going out for a few drinks. So much for plan A.
